Grainy 35mm film. Elmore Court

a bride photographed with photography film in a garden, at sunset

In the spirit of the spooky season, I want to share some old film scans I stumbled across recently.
I love using 35mm! The simplicity and the artistry in an A.I forward world, it feels like a breathe of fresh air. To look back at these unedited, uncropped.. unperfected images and just appreciating it for what it is.

I took these on my Nikon FM2 - A fully manual 35mm camera, released 2 years before I was born (released in1982, ) Full of gritty heavy grain, the B&W film is Ilford 3200 and the colour, both Kodak and Agfa film.

A haunting bride in the garden if a manor house, photographed with very grainy 35mm film

This wedding inspiration shoot was shot back in 2015, for brides who love a black and smokey grey palette, with a moody gothic feel. Featured in coco wedding venues the conceptual 2-day shoot was themed around ballet, Ophelia, and the Black Swan. Dreamt up by Sorori Design & myself, as an alternative wedding style. I wish I would have shot more film.

Although wedding styles move quite quickly, the interest in film photography hasn’t faded. Despite being quite expensive and not particularly eco-friendly in it’s development, the alure of film is still present in our digital world. Film makes me feel free and more mindful in the moment, so I highly recommend it as a break from your iPhone or SLR. It’s also lovely to incorporate 35mm photographic film into a wedding photography package.

The original blog for this shoot (with digital images) is still available to find here. All the gorgeous gowns are by Alexandra King and our model May was styled by Jess Mills MUA and Fordham Hair Design.

The venue was Elmore Court, in Gloucestershire.
